Digital Desk, Berlin. Germany’s Social Democratic government (SPD) leader and nominated chancellor Olaf Scholz has presented the names of his cabinet ministers for the country’s new government.
Karl Lauterbach, a clinical epidemiologist and leading expert in epidemic response, will become health minister, Xinhua news agency reported. Lauterbach said that we will win the fight against the epidemic and we will be better prepared for new epidemics. After this September’s election, the largest political party, the SPD, will have six ministerial posts in the new coalition government – four women and two men.
Nancy Feser, a regional politician from the state of Hesse, will be the first woman to hold the position of interior minister. “One of my special concerns will be to counter the greatest threat facing right-wing extremism at this time, our free democratic basic order,” Faesar said.
Scholz said security would be in the hands of strong women in this government. Also Social Democratic government announced that the Defense Ministry would be handled by the current Minister of Justice and Consumer Protection, Christine Lambrecht. Hubertus Heil will remain as Minister of Labor and Social Affairs.
Svenja Schulz (former Environment Minister) will take over the charge of the Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development. The new construction ministry is to be headed by Clara Gewitz, an SPD politician from Brandenburg, and Wolfgang Schmidt who served as Secretary of State under the incoming chancellor in the Ministry of Finance will become chancellor minister.
