Digital Desk, New Delhi. CAT 2021 examinations were conducted across the country on Sunday. Most of the questions in the slots of the examinations held on Sunday were as per the pattern. As already pointed out by IIM-Ahmedabad, the number of questions in all the sections has been reduced. This time also the evaluation scheme for CAT remained the same as in previous years. There was three marks for a correct answer and one negative mark for an incorrect MCQ answer. There was no negative marking for wrong answers to non-MCQ questions. The morning slot of CAT 2021 was a bit more difficult as compared to 2020.
Pradeep Pandey, Analyst and Academic Head of TIME-Delhi, said that there were 24 questions in the morning slot in the VARC section, compared to 26 in the previous year’s paper. Like the previous year paper, the number of RC passages was four. However, the number of RC questions decreased from 18 to 16 as compared to last year. The number of VA questions was 8. Passing RC this year was not easy. It was also difficult to select the passage to answer, as almost all the passages were made difficult to read. The only option was to isolate the difficult passages for the students to answer and then attempt the remaining passages.
Pradeep Pandey said that the questions were also similar, in which the students had to choose the right option, which could be done only by leaving the wrong option. The options were similar and many of them were not even directly related to the passage, question. Regarding the questions of verbal ability, it can be said that it has given some relief to the students who found the RC passage questions difficult. There were some easy questions in the PFQs which the students must have attempted, as those questions were short in length and required simple understanding. The linking of the sentences was very clear. The OMO questions were tough, but students could have guessed in these questions, as they are non-MCQs.
